Passover and Easter Break

April 1st is the annual Mustard Seed Passover Celebration (no foolin!).  Seventh graders along with the eighth graders will be assuming leadership roles.  This includes helping younger students during the meal and helping with the clean-up after the celebration.  In regards to the latter, students will be dismissed after all the jobs are completed.  This will be no later than 2:00.

As for the Easter Break, students will have minimal homework.  However they are responsible for reading a book and finishing a journal entry.  This means the Wednesday of the week we get back, students will have read TWO books.

Science Exhibition

The Science Exhibition is just around the corner (March 26th)

The students have chosen their topics and are hard at work with their essays.  The students have chosen to do the following topics.

Deanna:Making an ooblek
Bridget" Blowing up a balloon with vinegar and baking soda
Espi: Egg and vinegar
Phyllis: Growing crystals
Beca: Polymers
Josiah: Bubbles
Juan: Electric Circuits
Rhapsody: Melting points of different chocolates
Pedro: Bacteria
Devin: Measuring speed

Hair Donation Service Project

We finally have a date confirmed for our service project. The hair cutting will take place on April 14th from 1 PM to 3 PM in the Community Room.

The good people of Ferrazz Hair Salon have volunteered to help us but they need to know how many people will be donating their hair. Please contact Mr. Choi at schoi@mustardseedschool.org if you or your child or both are willing to donate your hair.

And please remember...

• Donated hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long (measure hair from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends).

• Wavy/curly hair texture is fine-you may straighten hair to measure.

• Hair should be freshly washed and completely dry, without any styling products.

• Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.

• Hair may not be more than 5 percent gray.

History Exhibition and Science Fair

First of all I want to congratulate all the 7th graders for a job well done on the History Exhibitions.  All the teachers were very impressed with the poise and confidence with which 7th graders carried themselves.  It was also great to see the 7th graders being excited about accomplishing an academic task and knowing they were successful at it.

Now the Science Fair is just around the corner (about 4 and 1/2 weeks).  Unlike other exhibitions the Science Fair does not take place in front of peers.  Instead, the 7th graders are required to present their experiments in front of a group of 2nd graders.

I am excited to see what the 7th graders will come up with for the Science Fair.  So far they have impressed me in their exhibitions and they seem to be getting better with each one.
